19 Mar Dominio de Berzal assesses his visit to Prowein 2024 with “a positive feeling”.
At Dominio de Berzal we believe in what we do. That is why we want to make known the fruit of this philosophy: our wines. We like to talk about them because we trust in them. Spaces such as press meetings or international fairs are ideal to give us visibility and open new ways of marketing our wines.
Prowein
From 10 to 12 March we were at the thirtieth edition of Prowein. It is no secret that this is one of the most important wine fairs in the world. Iñigo Berzal, the winery’s oenologist, says that Dominio de Berzal “had to participate in Prowein to give itself visibility”.
According to figures from the organisers, ProWein had the opportunity to welcome nearly 47,000 registered trade visitors from 135 countries and 5,400 exhibitors from 65 different countries on its thirtieth anniversary. Once again this year, the fair held in Düsseldorf stands out for the international nature of its offer.
Dominio de Berzal shared space with other appellations at a fair where the number of visitors and wineries was lower this year. In these circumstances, Iñigo affirms that “new clients have come, but this fair, in my opinion, is more about consolidating the clients you already have”.

“High quality”.
During the three days of the fair, the response from the attendees was always interesting. Iñigo Berzal recounts his experience: “When they taste Dominio de Berzal wines, they always comment that they are high quality wines”. Moreover, another aspect that Iñigo values in the response of those people who approach our wines is their distinction: “They always point out that they have the particularity that all the wines we make are very different from each other”.
The fact that people who get to know our wines highlight, from the very beginning, their particularity is a sign that we are on the right track. In fact, in this international experience at Prowein, one wine received the most praise, as Iñigo Berzal explains: “All the wines were liked by the people who visited the stand, but, obviously, there was one wine that received very good reviews, and that wine was Las laderas de Jose Luis”.
As we already told you in this other article, Las laderas de José Luis 2021 received 96 points in the latest report on La Rioja by the prestigious wine critic Tim Atkin. Atkin said of it: “It is a young and intensely perfumed red with sculpted tannins, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit and skilfully integrated second use oak”.
“A positive feeling
After this edition of Prowein, Iñigo Berzal believes that, despite the lower turnout at the fair and the growing competition, “the balance is good and we come back with a positive feeling that Dominio de Berzal wines are wines that interest distributors, that are liked”.
Furthermore, Berzal stresses that those attending the fair have the feeling that “they are wines that are valued by people in the sector”. That is why he believes that “we have a gap to market these wines at European and international level”.
