Dominio de Berzal se presenta con éxito en Bilbao

Dominio de Berzal is successfully presented in Bilbao thanks to a proposal of tradition and modernity with 6 unique wines.

“We claim our space with quality”. José Luis Berzal left no doubts about the proposal we were presenting in Bilbao. Dominio de Berzal was presented in the Biscayan capital with six unique wines that mark his way of being, working and living wine in Rioja Alavesa.

The best way to explain why wines are made is to drink them around a table. That is what happened on 15 February at the Amaren restaurant in Bilbao.

And the echo of that after-dinner conversation is already reaching the media that were present at a day that aimed to vindicate our wines and Rioja Alavesa. “Bilbao has to give us a hand”, Iñigo Berzal told Aitor Buendía on EITB’s La Ruta Slow on Radio Vitoria.

The programme dedicated to gastronomy on Kilómetro Cero talked to Iñigo Berzal about the launch of the winery in Bilbao. “We want to achieve a regular presence of Rioja Alavesa in Bilbao”, Iñigo confessed on the programme.

Family and innovation

To this end, we brought half a dozen wines that spoke of the two main pillars of our philosophy: family and innovation.

The Basque press fell for the former and was surprised by the latter.

Buendía highlighted the family and traditional character that the Berzal brothers bring to everything they do. It has been 25 years since we decided to go one step further and seek excellence based on the experience acquired by previous generations.

Regarding the wines presented, the director of La Ruta Slow, he is left with “a surprising” Blanco Joven 2023 despite a season that was not at all easy in terms of weather. And he also discovers the Parcelas Garnacha 2021 because “it is striking in aromas and on the palate”.

Evolution and loyalty

The journalist Julián Méndez, from El Correo, highlighted in his article published in Jantour, the evolution of a winery that is in his memory like that friend who has not been seen for a long time but is instantly recognisable. In addition, he was surprised by “the gourmand red” 7 Varietales 2019. The wine “with which I felt most comforted”, admits Méndez. “A puzzle for Iñigo Berzal”, he concludes.

From his review he highlights “the mineral and well-made” Parcelas Garnacha 2021 and “a wine as special as Laderas de José Luis, the remarkable top of the range of the firm”.

Small and titans

Araceli Viqueira has also highlighted the evocative power of Jose Luis Berzal: “I am the one with the stories”, she said at Amaren. In her account in Crónica Vasca, Viqueira focused on the capacity of small wineries, such as ours, to create titans of wine such as the exclusive collection we offered in Bilbao. He made special mention of the freshness of the Blanco Joven 2023 and the uniqueness of Las Laderas de Jose Luis 2018.

We would like to thank the presence and commitment of the press who accepted the invitation in Bilbao and have lovingly expressed their impressions of a collection of wines that is the reflection of a philosophy, ours, based on innovation without losing our identity.
